Successful volleyball court design focuses on performance flooring, player safety, durable equipment, facility lighting, construction and maintenance budgets, and of course the fan experience. When sharing athletic facilities with others, most volleyball programs must also balance the needs of other athletic and community uses for the space. Great Volleyball Courts are designed for the highest level of play. They include a high-performance athletic floor system and state-of-the-art equipment.
Basketball backstops have been ceiling mounted in athletic facilities and gymnasiums for over 100 years. Why not volleyball? Ceiling mounted volleyball nets have taken the place of old fashioned floor mounted post volleyball systems because they save time in court set up and tear down, because they reduce player injuries and because they reduce theft and damage to volleyball equipment.
Our innovative ceiling mounted volleyball system is complete with net, pads, judges stand and net guides. It does not require any attachment to the floor for security making is safer for athletes. It operates with the push of a button and sets up ready for play in 1 minute. The entire facility can be programmed to set up for different events. Multiple volleyball courts, basketball backstops and divider curtains can be operated at the same time with an ipad tablet, keypad or touchpad device to simplify and quickly set up for the next event. Ideal athletic flooring for volleyball includes the right shoe grip and slide characteristics to maximize player performance. The floor must feel and respond consistently across the entire surface. It must provide the exact amount of shock absorption to minimize muscle fatigue which occurs from jumping and landing on hard surfaces. And it must provide the right amount of resilience to maximize player performance and speed. While a properly designed wood floor is high performance, traditional and popular, poured urethane resilient floors offer similar performance with multi sport benefits.
Good, better, best applies to volleyball floors just like other products we use every day. They look alike from above because they all look like a shiny wood floor. Like cars and apple pie, it’s what’s inside that counts. The underside of your volleyball floor determines whether your floor will perform to your expectations. Both wood and synthetic urethane can be designed and engineered to maximize performance and safety for players. The best volleyball floors have a resilient wood sub floor system installed under a solid maple wood playing surface or a poured urethane top surface. Decades of research and development have created floor systems that exceed international DIN standards for athletic playing surfaces. Strict standards for shock absorption, slide characteristics, and area of deflection result in a volleyball floor that will support players’ ever increasing athletic ability.
A small percentage of volleyball floors are plastic, vinyl or rubber surfaces. Plastic and vinyl floor grip/slide and shock absorption properties do not meet the requirements for competitive volleyball. They are too slick and do not offer enough shock absorption to protect against injury. Rubber floors that direct glue to concrete do not offer enough shock absorption and the grip/slide score is typically too aggressive which can cause injury and muscle fatigue.
